Untouched by Modern society, Upper Mustang can be considered as an existing gallery of ancient Tibetan culture & tradition. Hidden behind the majestic Himalayan ranges of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, this trek starts with a short flight from Pokhara to Jomsom & follows the trails filled with Buddhist shrines such as Stupas, Chhortens, Prayers walls, centuries-old monasteries, caves, etc. With a wide diversity of landscapes, panoramic mountain views to offer, the main highlight of this trek is the ancient capital Lo Manthang where the palace of the last king is well preserved to date. Along with panoramic views of the Annapurna & Dhaulagiri range, the trek also offers a perfect blend of history, culture, myth & legends. Listed as one of the restricted regions, one can only trek here with a special trekking permit and a government-registered trekking company of Nepal.

We'll leave for Pokhara early in the morning today after having our breakfast. It will take us around 7-8 hours to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu in a private vehicle. You'll be escorted to your hotel after reaching Pokhara. You can take a rest for the rest of the day or go for a walk on the lakeside & enjoy the city lights of Pokhara. Overnight stay at Pokhara.
Optional: We can also take a flight to Pokhara if you want instead of driving.
Today after our breakfast at Pokhara hotel, we will drive towards Jomsom, the headquarters of the Mustang district. It is a long but scenic drive from Pokhara with spectacular views of mountain ranges and changing landscapes all along our way. Our real trekking starts after we arrive at Jomsom. We will trek towards the famous Kagbeni village by walking along the Kali Gandaki river following the scenic routes of mountains like Niligiri for a few hours until we reach Kagbeni. Overnight stay at a lodge in Kagbeni.
Today we'll start our trekking to Chele from Kagbeni. The trail today heads to the eastern bank of the Kaligandaki river & then ascends through Tangbe village to Chhusang village. As we move forward, we'll soon cross the Kaligandaki river on a steel bridge & then ascend toward the village of Chele which is situated on a hill above the gorge. Overnight stay at Chele.
After having our breakfast in Chele, we'll begin our trek to Samar. Today, we'll pass through several bridges & barley fields on our way. After a few hours of walking, we'll reach a village called Gyakar & then leaving the village we ascend as the path becomes drier. Continuing up as we walk, we'll soon reach Samar village which is a major stopping place for the traders coming from Tibet. Overnight stay at Samar.
Our trek continues today as we move toward Syangboche from Samar. We'll start with a climb through the steep dry landscape & then descend the hill. We'll be continuously trekking for about 5-6 hours today until we reach Syangboche. On our way, we'll cross two passes, Taklam la pass (3,624) & Dajori la pass (3,735). We'll also pass by Ramchung Cave & can enjoy some amazing views of several mountains on the way. Soon we'll reach Syangboche village where we'll be spending the night. Overnight stay at Syangboche.
We'll continue our journey today as we move forward to Ghami from Syangboche. We'll start our trek with an ascend to the Yamda la pass (3850m) & pass through several Tibetan-style teahouses & local houses on our way. Moving forward we'll descend toward Ghami village which is one of the biggest villages in this region.Overnight stay at Ghami.
Today, we'll be trekking to Tsarang from Ghami. Our trek begins as we descend through a rough trail & cross a suspension bridge over the Ghami Khola. Moving ahead, we'll ascend on a trail alongside mani walls & soon cross the Tsarang La Pass (3870m). We'll reach Tasarng village after walking for around 5-6 hours. Overnight stay at Tsarang village.
Today we'll move forward to Lo-Manthang which is the main destination of our trek. We'll descend from Tsarang to cross Tsarang-chu, & then ascend uphill through a rough path to piled up stones. From this point, we can get the first view of the walled city of Lo-Manthang. As we continue walking, we'll descend and then move upward through another ridge to reach Lo-Manthang. Overnight stay at Lo-Manthang.
Today is the first & only rest day of our trek. As we have been walking continuously for the past week, today we'll be getting much-needed rest. We can explore around Lo-Manthang or we can visit the palace of the former king of Lo-Manthang. We can also hike around the village to get some amazing views of the mountains & landscape surrounding the valley. Overnight stay at Lo-Manthang.
We'll continue our journey today as we descend back to Ghami from Lo-Manthang. We'll begin by crossing high fields before descending on a steep trail leading to Dhakmar. We'll pass through several other villages & plain fields on our way today before reaching Ghami. overnight stay at Ghami.
Continuing our descent, today we'll trek to Chuksang from Ghami. Walking on a trail with some ascents and descents, we'll pass through desert-like places on our way. We then follow the path alongside the river before crossing a bridge above Kali Gandaki River & finally reach Chuksang village. Overnight stay at Chuksang.
The trail today takes us to a sacred place, Muktinath temple. Following the path passing through desert-like places, on the way, today we’ll pass through some agricultural fields & small settlements. We can enjoy the beautiful deserted landscape, Caves & old Tibetan Style Villages along the way. After walking for around 6-7 hours, we'll reach Muktinath Temple, where we enjoy a bath of 108 Taps which is believed to wash away all our sins. Overnight stay at Muktinath.
Today, we'll gradually descend to Jomsom from Muktinath. Walking alongside Kali Gandaki river passing bridges & passing by small settlements, we reach Jomsom after around 5-6 hours of walking. Overnight stay at Jomsom.
Today, after having our breakfast in Jomsom, we'll drive to Pokhara which is a long but scenic drive. After arriving in Pokhara, you'll be escorted to your hotel where you can take a good rest. In the evening, we can roam around the lakeside & enjoy our time in this bustling city, Pokhara. Overnight stay at Pokhara.
Today, we'll be driving back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. The drive takes around 7-8 hours to reach Kathmandu. After arriving in Kathmandu you'll be escorted to your hotel. You can rest for the remaining day or go around the shops in Kathmandu to buy souvenirs. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
