Tilicho Lake Trek is one of the visually pleasing and exciting treks that leads you to the stunning glacial lake at the altitude of 4920m at the laps of Tilicho peak (7134m). Previously known as the lake at the highest altitude of the world, Tilicho lake also holds a great religious and mythical value causing pilgrims from around the world to flock to the lake. This trek begins from Chame and goes alongside the mountains like Manaslu and Himchuli. It then leads you to the traditional Buddhist villages with heartwarming people where you can get to know about their way of life, religion, culture, and hospitality they offer. You will pass through different river basins, suspension bridges, steep trails, narrow pathways, and dangerous debris before reaching Tilicho Lake making this trek more adventurous and adrenaline-rushing. Tranquil Tilicho lake is the perfect place for you to sit peacefully and admire mother nature’s beauty surrounded by bare hills and snowy peaks. As this trek falls under the Annapurna region, you can attach this trek with the Annapurna Circuit and Poonhill route or with Mesokanto Pass route and have a greater view of the diverse landscape, culture, tradition and snowy peaks all at once within a few days.

Our Tilicho Lake Trek starts with an early morning breakfast followed by a bus ride to a village called Chame. We leave the busy and chaotic Kathmandu valley and go along the picturesque Trishuli river to Pokhara and head north to Besisahar and from there we catch another ride and reach Chame village. Throughout this drive, we get to observe scenery of terrace farms, beautiful village settlements, snowy mountain peaks, green hills, lush forests and fast flowing rivers. Overnight stay at a lodge in Chame.
Optional: We can start our trekking from Jagat. We trek from Jagat to Dharapani and then finally to Chame. It will add 2 more days in our itinerary.
We start our real and adventurous trek from Chame village. After having our breakfast, we walk along the beautiful trail which takes us to Pisang village of Manang. We walk through a steep and narrow village where we sight our first massive wall of rock, Paungda Danda rock face which is considered sacred by the local people. We get to see mesmerizing views of Annapurna II, Chulu, Lamjung Himal and Pisang peak while trekking to Pisang. After reaching Pisang, we can hike up to the monastery in upper Pisang. After our breakfast at Pisang, we march towards the upper part of Manang district which is dry, cold and harsh. Today, we have an option to choose the route from Pisangthat that is to go either from North or South. The northern trail passes from Ghyaru which requires more climbing, but we can enjoy the magnificent view of the snow-capped mountains. The southern trail passes from beautiful traditional houses and requires less climbing than the northern way. Both the ways meet at Mungji. We get to see different monasteries and Buddhist shrines along our way to Manang village. Overnight stay at a lodge in Manang.
Today is our acclimatization day in Manang village. We rest and adjust our body with thin air and higher altitude. There are many interesting places in Manang for us to visit so we spend our day exploring Manang and hiking to places like Gangapurna Glacial Lake, Khangsar, Praken Gomba, Milarepa Cave and many Manang bakeries all while admiring views of Tilicho Peak, Pisang Peak and Annapurna III. We can also spend our evening by visiting the Himalayan Rescue Association in Vajra village where we learn about mountain sickness, its symptoms and preventions. Overnight stay at a lodge in Manang.
After our acclimatization day at Manang, we continue our adventure for Tilicho Lake as we head to Khangsar village today from Manang. We start trekking from Manang after our breakfast and head out through the western gates and then follow the path down to the river. We pass through small scenic settlements, Tore monastery, breathtaking Khangsar river and the grand barrier before reaching Khangsar village which is still in the old Tibetan style and is also the last village settlement before reaching Tilicho lake. Today we trek towards Tilicho Lake Base Camp from Khangsar village. After having a delicious breakfast we set our feet on the trail. We come across grassy fields, Gompas, Chortens, juniper and buckthorn bushes, small streams, prayer flags and zigzag trails before entering the Tilicho Base Camp. Mesmerizing Tilicho peaks and other snow-covered mountains await us from the base camp for great views. We rest and relax for our big day tomorrow at base camp. Today we wake up early in the morning and start our hike towards the astonishing Tilicho Lake at an altitude of 4919 m. We walk for nearly 3-4 hours slowly and steadily on a rugged and moraine trail. Throughout our way to the lake, we are followed by the beautiful views of Mt. Nilgiri and Khangsar Peak. Then we reach this large sparkling lake that lies at the foot of the north face of Tilicho peak. We spend some of our precious time roaming around, taking pictures and making memories in this “Frozen Lake”. Then we bid farewell and trace our ways back to Base Camp slowly. After our successful trek to Tilicho Lake, today we descend down the same path we came up towards Manang village . After our breakfast, we start our way down by following the north, passing the local Goths. We then come across the juniper and alpine grasses. We follow the old track of Khangsar village that will lead us around and down to cross the river on an old small bridge. We then arrive at the beautiful Manang village after a long day . Overnight stay at a lodge in Manang village.
Optional: You can continue your trek towards Thorong La Pass and complete the Annapurna Circuit route.
Today we trek back from Manang village to Chame village, our last trekking destination. We walk downhill slowly and comfortably and pass lower Pisang, Humde and other small settlements. Our trail today leads us to a forest of rhododendron, pine and juniper along with beautiful surrounding views and landscape. We reach Chame and take a good rest and a hot shower washing all our trekking fatigue. Overnight stay at a lodge in Chame.
Our adventurous Tilicho Lake Trek ends at Chame village. After early morning breakfast, we pick our ride towards Kathmandu and leave the beautiful and picturesque Chame village. Along the way, we see the picturesque Trishuli river, busy Besisahar bazaar, terrace farms, village settlements, snowy mountain peaks, green hills, lush forests and fast-flowing rivers. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you will be transferred to a hotel where you can rest and relax peacefully. You are free to explore other nearby and surrounding places.
