Shivapuri day hike is one of the most popular hiking spots near the valley. Situated in the North of Kathmandu, Shivapuri hill marks itself as the second highest hill around the valley at an elevation of 2563m. This hike takes you to the nearest national park from the city i.e Shivapuri National park which is known for its rich biodiversity and greenery. You get to visit a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site Budhanilkantha which is also the starting point of the hike. Some other major highlights of this hike are; Nangi Gompa where you can witness Buddhist nuns meditating in a peaceful environment around fluttering prayer flags and another is Bagdwar, known to be the origin of Bagmati river. Taking you to the top of Shivapuri Hill from where you can get a panoramic view of several mountain ranges like; Langtang range, Ganesh Himal range along with spectacular view of Kathmandu valley below, with everything put together, this hike can be considered as a day in the natural paradise.

Early in the morning you'll be picked up in a private vehicle from your hotel. After the pick-up we'll have a short 30 min drive to Budhanilkantha. We'll make a quick visit to Budhanilkantha temple which is a sacred site for Hindus. Our real hike on foot begins from here as we make our way to the army checkpoint where we'll take our entry permits and start walking toward Shivapuri hill. Hiking on a forested trail passing through several lush forests and greenery, we first reach Nangi Gompa after walking for around an hour. We'll rest in the peaceful environment of the Gompa for a while and continue our ascent to top. Next, we reach Bagdwar which is known to be the origin of Bagmati river. After another uphill walk of around an hour and half from Bagdwar, we'll finally reach Shivapuri hill from where we can witness the panoramic views of Lantang and Rolwaling mountain range. We'll spend a little time at the top relishing the majestic views and excursing the area and then start descending down to Budhanilkantha. From Budhanilkantha, we'll drive back to Kathmandu where you'll be dropped off at your hotel.
