Doleshwor Mahadev temple, situated in the southeast of Bhaktapur is a temple believed to be the head part of Kedarnath located in Uttarakhand, India. After the end of Mahabharat, the Pandava brothers left for the Himalayas in the search of forgiveness, and Lord Shiva, not willing to forgive, disguised himself as a bull. Realizing this, the Pandava brothers caught the tail of the bull causing the head to get separated from the rest of the body. While the body part of a bull is in Kedarnath, devotees have been searching for the head for thousands of years & following the research Doleshwor Mahadev temple was declared as the head part of Kedarnath on August 22, 2009, by the head priest of Kedarnath. There is a great resemblance between the two temples as one can witness the huge plain Shiva linga, taps, big idol of bull & Trishul around the temple along with the prayers rules & rituals being similar. Thousands of devotees visit the temple during Chardham yatra with the belief of washing off their sins as the journey is considered to be incomplete without visiting the Doleshwor Mahadev temple. Some other special days you can visit the temple are the month of Shrawan (July-August), Shivaratri & Teej, etc.
