A hidden mystical valley lying between Sagarmatha National Park & Makalu Barun National Park, Arun Valley Trek is one of the least crowded trekking trails of Nepal offering some astounding views of Mount Everest, Mount Makalu & Mount Lhotse, etc. Starting with a short flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar situated in Eastern Nepal & ending in Lukla of Everest region, this trek takes you to some ancient sherpa & rai settlements. Traverse Eastern Nepal & Everest region while learning about the lifestyle of Sherpa & Rai culture, this trek also takes you to a sacred pond named Salpa Pokhari & Makalu Barun National park which are considered to be some main highlights of the trek. To begin our trek, we take an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar of around 35-40 minutes. We can witness attractive views of the hills, gorges, and the eastern Himalayas during the flight. Upon our arrival in Tumlingtar, we start our walk through the forest trail & farms to reach our second destination of the day, Kartike where we will stay overnight. Overnight stay at Kartike.
Today we'll be starting our trek as we walk through the fields to pass the bridge over the Arun River until we reach the small village of Baluwa Besi. The trail then takes us into Sal forest and passes through several small settlements before we reach the Rai village of Marduwa. After crossing several villages & forests we reach Gothe. Overnight stay at Gothe.
We’ll start our trek after having breakfast in Gothe. The trail today passes through terraced fields with rice paddies, citrus fruits, banana groves, etc. Ascending through several Rai and Sherpa villages, crossing various bamboo bridges, rivers & suspension bridges over Irkhuwa Khola, we reach Dobane. Following the south bank of Irkhuwa Khola, we soon reach Salpa-Phedi. Overnight stay at Salpa-Phedi.
After having an early morning breakfast, we hike up from Phedi to climb along small rivers through the dense forests. We can get some breathtaking views of mountains on our way when we walk in the landscape dominated by the colorful grassy lands and open fields. Going forward through the rhododendron forest leaving the human settlements behind, we reach Guranse after walking for around 4-5 hrs. Overnight stay at Gurase.
Today the trail begins as we take a steady ascend from Guranse. After passing through lush rhododendron forest we continue to ascend until we reach Salpa La pass at an elevation of 3350 m which is the highest elevation of our trek. A glimpse of Mt. Makalu (8463m) and Mt. Chamlang (7321m) can be seen from Salpa Bhanjyang. Moving forward we trek down through the rhododendron forest and cross the hillside to reach Sanam. Overnight stay at Sanam.
Today, we'll be trekking down toward Bung as we descend through the forest of rhododendron & brown oaks. We cross several villages like; Shorung, Gudel, etc before reaching Bung. Passing through steel suspension bridges, open fields, & rhododendron forests, we reach bung which is a small Rai village. Overnight stay at Bung.
We have a relatively short trek today, starting with a descent through the cliff. We pass by open fields where people from surrounding settlements can be seen grazing yaks. Few hours of the walk takes us to Gaikharka where we’ll have pleasing views of green landscapes and disorganized farmhouses. Overnight stay at Gaikharka.
After having breakfast today we'll trek to Vasme. Descending through various ups and downs across the valleys, the trail takes us to the rhododendron and juniper forest alongside Hinku River before reaching Vasme. We can get a glimpse of Mera Peak (6476m) along with the view of the Upper Khumbu region. Overnight stay at Vasme.
Leaving the small village Vasme behind, today we continue to trek through the rhododendron forest and ascend to the trail that takes us to the top of Pangum La Pass (3174m), from where marvelous views of the snow-covered Mera Peak (6476m), Mt. Kusum Kanguru (6367m), Mt. Kangtega (6685m), and several other peaks can be seen. From there, we descend through the steep trail leading us to the beautiful Sherpa village of Pangum with unique lifestyle & traditions. Overnight stay at Pangum.
Today is the final day of walking through the mountain foothills of Arun valley as we descend to Paiyan. We start the trek with a walk through the lush forest of rhododendron and oak. We'll also be crossing Kari La (3145m), which serves as a viewpoint of Mt. Kusum Kanguru (6367m), Mt. Thamserku (6608m), and Mt. Kangtega (6685m), etc today. Descending gradually from Kari La, we cross a wooden bridge above Paiya Khola, and head towards Paiya. Overnight stay at Paiya.
Today we'll be trekking toward Lukla which is a starting point of most of the treks in the Everest region. From Paiya, we gradually ascend & descend through the lush green forest. The trail passes through several other villages before reaching Phakding. En route to Phakding, we pass various small monasteries and Mani walls. Leaving Phakding behind we cross the suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi River and descend through rhododendron forests to reach Lukla. We’ll also cross many Buddhist villages and prayer flags on the way to Lukla. Overnight stay at Lukla.
We'll have an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu today. You can take a final glimpse of snow-covered Himalayas during the flight. After getting back to Kathmandu, you can take a rest or enjoy other activities for the remaining day. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
