Kapan is a residential and busy area located in the northern part of Kathmandu valley but despite its domestic nature, it is home to a number of sacred monasteries that have been built and preserved for ages. Kapan and Pullahari Monastery hiking is a pleasant one-day hike that offers you a great experience to view the scenic vegetation, small villages and Kathmandu valley along with giving you an opportunity to have an insight into Buddhist culture and tradition. This easy hiking trail takes you to beautiful lush pine forests, green meadows and city areas all in one day. Kapan and Pullahari monastery both are situated in a short distance from each other and both these places hold significant meaning and importance for all the Buddhist disciples and monks around the world. According to the data, we know that the Pullahari Gumba building was completed in February 1992 and was blessed by the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche and on April 26, 1992, the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche dissolved his mind in Parinirvana but left behind his instructions and wishes to his devoted monks and disciples along with the wealth of his legacy. To this date, monks in these monasteries devote themselves to prayer, scriptures, rituals, and dedication and make this their day-to-day life. This short hike to Kapan and Pullahari Gumba can be a way to relieve stress and anxiety by exploring nature and religious shrines in just a span of a day.

Our hike to the Kapan and Pullahari monasteries starts with an early morning drive from your hotel to Kapan followed by a short walk to reach Kapan monastery. Upon reaching the Kapan monastery, we take our time to explore the surrounding environment. We talk with the monks, nuns and observe their daily life quietly. The scenic environment and greenery of this monastery is quite mind blowing as it is surrounded by a forest area. This whole tranquil environment of the monastery makes it a perfect place for disciples to study and devote them-self to Buddhist practices and traditions which we also get an opportunity to see. After spending ample time in Kapan monastery admiring its beauty and tranquility, we march towards our second destination, Pullahari monastery which sits on top of the Kapan hill. The walk from Kapan monastery to Pullahari monastery is decorated with green scenic background and view of Kathmandu valley. We reach this monastery in no time and start exploring the surrounding areas quietly. Pullahari monastery is known for its amazing Thangka paintings that adorn the entire facade and the interiors of the halls and unique architecture design so we take enough time to roam around. Our visit to these monasteries situated in the middle of quiet forests helps us in gathering an ample amount of knowledge and awareness in various things. After a whole day of exploring these places, we return back to our vehicle point and then drive back to the hotel. This hiking creates a perfect balance for people who want to enjoy peaceful nature while devouring knowledge and awareness through Buddhism.
Optional: The spiritual program at Kapan Monastery offers introductory-level courses in the Discover Buddhism series dealing with the basic principles of Tibetan Buddhism and meditation. Known as the Next Step series, this series leads to a deeper exploration of these principles. Courses deal with Mind Training, Karma, Death and Dying, Bodhicitta, and more. There are 5-day and 10-day courses and a month-long course on meditation. There are also short courses on Tibetan medicine, Thangka painting and 10-day residential courses in Buddhist psychology and philosophy. You can choose to enlist on any of these programs if you are interested and have a suitable time period.
