Our Patan-Khokana-Bungamati day tour starts early in the morning with a scenic drive to Patan. Patan is situated in the Lalitpur district and is only about 5 km away from the capital city, Kathmandu. After just entering Patan premises we can see loads of arts and handicrafts being displayed everywhere which makes us realize that Patan is one of the most beautiful and important cities of Nepal and has rightfully earned its name as “City of Arts”. We spend few hours touring and visiting Patan nooks and corners. We start our tour by passing through the famous Patan gate. We start to visit all the famous landmarks inside the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Patan Durbar Square premise. One by one we go through temples like Krishna Mandir, Bhimsen Mandir, Vishwanath Mandir, Bagalamukhi and Taleju Bhawani Mandir. We also explore the Buddhist monasteries, Patan museum and main three courtyards named Keshav Narayan Chowk, Mul Chowk and Sundari Chowk. Patan Durbar Square has an immense number of shops for handicrafts and arts made by ethnic people so we roam around and explore those too. After getting to know most about Patan Durbar Square, we move towards Khokana, the medieval Newari village of Patan. At Khokana, we visit famous landmarks such as the triple-tiered Shekala Mai Temple, Jitapur Mandap and De Pukhu pond along with other nearby ponds. As Khokana is famous for its mustard oil production, we see villagers spinning, winnowing, and crushing mustard seeds along our way. Our last stop Bungamati is famous for the Rato Macchendranath temple, Hayangriva Bhairav temple, Manakamana temple and Karyabinayak temple. We visit these important places all one by one and gain knowledge about their past and present status. Bungamati village is also considered a living museum because of the elaborate carving designs in stones or in woods created by both males and females of the Bungamati community. So like this, we successfully complete our day tour and return back to Kathmandu in the evening.
