Our journey to Chitlang village starts with a short drive to a place called Matatirtha which means mother's shrine in the Nepali language. This shrine gets a lot of pilgrims who have lost their mothers on Nepali mother's day which falls on a new moon day each year in April. We start hiking towards the famous Chandragiri Hills top which is a popular touristic site lately. Chandragiri hilltop has Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple in the center and has restaurants, parks and other recreation spots all in short distance from each other. We can observe spectacular mountains view of mountains like Gaurishanker, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Everest, Api and sides of Kathmandu valley settlement on a clear day from the hilltop. After spending some time at the top of Chandragiri Hills looking at the Himalayans, we hike towards the Chitlang village which is famous for ancient temples, ancient rest houses, ancient stone water taps and many more. After an easy downhill walk through the dense forest, we arrive at Chitlang village in the afternoon. We spend our evening happily dancing, singing and creating memories in the beautiful village of Chitlang. Overnight stay at a lodge/homestay in Chitlang village.
Optional: You can choose to take a cable car ride up to the top of Chandragiri hill and then hike down towards Chitlang village.
We start our day by having breakfast at Chitlang while looking at the beautiful village surroundings. We spend our morning touring the Chitlang village and visiting its important places like ancient temples, cheese factory, ancient stone taps and other monuments in the village area. Then we bid farewell to Chitlang village and hike towards our another destination, Kulekhani. Khulekhani has the biggest artificial Lake (dam) in Nepal made to produce hydroelectricity named Indrasarovar (Sarovar means lake). Upon reaching here, we enjoy boating in the lake and explore nearby areas for some time. After spending time here, we drive back to Kathmandu valley through the way of Dakshinkali Temple and visit a Buddhist monastery in Pharping. If time allows us, we may even explore these places on the way. After a few hours’ drive, we arrive at Kathmandu valley which is the ending point of our successful journey to Chitlang and Markhu village via Chandragiri hills.
Optional: You can choose to take a bus up to Markhu village which reduces the hiking time to reach the Kulekhani dam site.
